The reason this has come up recently is because of my work computer. It has a wired mouse and although I have been using this computer for about a year now, the chord still gets in the way. It tends to bump into the monitor stand. This is not a big problem, just a minor annoyance. At home I only have one monitor so my mouse chord never interferes with the stand.
I wish I could get feedback from folks who have used both to find out what their preference is and if there are any pitfalls with the wireless device that I don't know about. Oh right, I should be using Twitter for that, not my blog with a readership of 4 non-technical peoples. My bad :)

What's a wired mouse?! Hahaha...all my mice are wireless. It's been so long since I've had a wired mouse that I don't even remember how annoying it is for the cord to get in the way.
I would say the only disadvantage of the wireless is, like you said, replacing the batteries. But it happens so infrequently, that I can't even say how often I replace them. And we always have a stash of batteries for our plethora of battery-operated kid's toys, so it's not a big deal to replace them. If you don't keep batteries around, I think it would be annoying to have to make a trip out to buy batteries when they need to be replaced - that's the way I feel everytime we run out of printer ink.
That's my non-technical 2 cents...
I have a bluetooth Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000. Been using it for over 2 years with no problems, it has a rechargeable battery and recharger stand. I will NEVER go back to a wired mouse.
